Finally! A New Pattern!!!You will love this new pattern! Use crochet to make beautiful cables and ribbing in this fun and cozy sweater!

This is the first pattern I have written in a few years. It was great to get back into it... but I am feeling a little rusty --- so I welcome any feedback!

Pattern is available for purchase on Ravelry and Craftsy! It is a written pattern (no diagram) but there is a description of the more complicated stitches at the end as well as a picture tutorial of how to do the cable. A sizing diagram is included at the end of the pattern as well.

Stay warm in this incredible sweater!
Happy Stitching!
Love,
Sara

For those that don't know, I have spent the last three years getting my master's degree from Colorado State University in Design and Merchandising. It has been a crazy ride learning to sew, use computer design software, create apparel patterns, teach a product development class, and conduct research into cultural appropriation in fashion, clothing comfort smartphone apps, and feminist media portrayals of women and dress.

Now that I am no longer writing research papers or my thesis... I'm getting back to writing a few crochet patterns and words cannot describe how psyched I am. Some things I hope to have for sale soon include a filet crochet wall hanging with fringe, a warm and cozy winter vest, and some pillow cases that play with cables in crochet. Stay tuned, cause I'm working hard on getting those ready for you wonderful wonderful stitchers!

For now, I'm sharing pictures of my master's thesis design line. I combined historic filet crochet lace techniques with digitally printed textiles. I researched textile traditions of West Africa and used a computer software to design textiles. They were then printed on cotton and silk using a digital textile printer (a gigantic printer that puts dye onto fabric rather than ink onto paper). I draped patterns to make my designs and made some elements a crochet piece that used the filet crochet method to pick up on the textile motifs of the fabric. I shared all this design work in a gallery of all my own design work that was up from September through December of 2015. It was a ton of hard work and the most incredible experience and I learned so much. Enjoy the pictures below.

My thesis work also lead me to research feminism, social responsibility, fair-trade, the cult of new domesticity, historic crochet, adinkra symbols, wax print cloth, and cultural appropriation... All info I hope to write about and share with you one day... but maybe after I've had more of a thesis-writing break.

So excited to start crocheting with all of you again. Happy stitching. Love, Sara

Sans Limites Crochethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10383578399201534823noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292581077269792338.post-58825908949011509282013-11-27T10:09:00.000-07:002013-11-27T10:09:50.083-07:00THANKSGIVING!So... I've been going a little coo coo nuts seeing all the black Friday commercials this week and all the stores open on Thanksgiving! Don't you think it's a bit ironic that the day we are supposed to be giving thanks for all we have is now a day devoted to shopping - probably for stuff we don't really need? UGH... ick.

So... that had me down.... and I seriously have a zillion papers to write (50 pages down- who knows how much more to go!).

But what was REALLY bumming me out was not being able to see my sister this Thanksgiving. FIRST TIME without her. About a year and a half ago, she moved to Boston to start a PhD program at Harvard. She is brilliant, bright, funny, and a complete joy to be around. I brag about her all the time and miss her so much! We've known since the semester started she probably wouldn't make it out this year - she has to turn in all the work for her Pre- Qualifying Exam (PQE) this week and is ridiculously busy. We didn't even want to visit her in Boston and distract her or stress her out.

So yesterday morning we were sending facebook messages back and forth while both working like mad on our school work and joking about Skyping her in on dinner and if Skype had a teleport pie function... and I was missing her so. darn. much! Ugh... yesterday was a rough one...

Well... one of my favorite sister moments was during my Freshman year of college. I had just moved away and we were missing each other quite a lot. Amanda was on dance team and cheerleading (YES... she is brilliant AND talented... you'll just have to meet her one day) and she was competing at nationals in Las Vegas. I called her a few times to tell her how sad I was that I couldn't be there before I hopped on a plane to Vegas... I knocked on her hotel room and hid, when she answered the door- first she looked angry, then confused, then happy, then so happy she started crying. So proud I was able to surprise her!

Well, last night I went to bed feeling a bit bummed. In the middle of the night Amanda burst into my room and flipped on all the lights... First I was angry, then confused, then happy, then so happy I started crying. BEST. FREAKIN. SURPRISE. EVERRRRRR!

Amanda's arrival got me right into the holiday spirit- which was so sadly missing yesterday. I hope you all have the most amazing Thanksgiving with the people you love. I am so so so thankful for my family, holiday surprises, and all of you. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Love, Sara (and Amanda too! YAY!)
A lot of companies are using craft based products (crochet and jewelry making in Uganda, knitting in Peru, fabric batik in Ghana) to provide jobs and a starting place for economic growth in areas with a lot of poverty.

For the past few Christmases, I have posted about companies you can buy from that not only make great products, but are working to make the world a better place. Now you can see them all gathered on one easy site. World changing has NEVER been so easy. Check out Tom's Marketplace to see how they have brought a ton of cool companies together to change the world through how we shop.

AND I LOVED seeing my old bosses from Krochet Kids international up there... AND even one of the products I helped work on during my time there... the Hoot!

Go shop. Buy cool things. Make the world a better place. Feel awesome. It's that simple.
The extreme weather we have seen here in the last two years between forest fires, blizzards, and floods has effected so many lives and destroyed so many homes. Last weekend, I took my visiting aunt up to Rocky Mountain National Park. We have a yearly pass to this place which is truly one of my absolute favorite spots in the whole world. For us, it is a quick hour on Highway 34 up a mountain canyon along a small river and we can hike through some of the most beautiful mountains in existence. Below is a video of what that road looks like today. My heart is a little broken knowing I won't be able to visit my sanctuary for a while. Here in north Fort Collins, we are cut off from south Fort Collins. The city is shut down and just about every road that crosses the Poudre River is closed in case it takes out a bridge. All of I-25 is closed and lots of it is covered in water. The Red Cross has set up at my old elementary school. I'm completely safe, but my heart is breaking for all the fantastic people in this state. Love to you Coloradoans - the best people in the world!
TA DA... the Pineapple Leggings. These take some patience to make, but are well worth it in the end!

You will need:
-Stretchy leggings (this will be tough if your leggings are REALLY tight, go for some you get into and out of easily!)
-Size 3 cotton crochet thread (that's the thicker kind)
-A smallish crochet hook like an E or an F... it doesn't have to be specific.
-Sewing pins
-Needle and thread
-Sharp scissors

Start by chaining 2.
Row1: 1 sc in second ch from hook. Turn
Row 2: Ch 3. (2tc, Ch 2, 2tc) in sc of previous row. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 2. 2dc in each of the next 2 tc, 4 dc in ch-2 space, 2 dc in each of the next 2 tc. (12 dc total.) Turn.
Row 4: Ch 3. *1 tc in dc of previous row. Ch 1. Repeat from * across ending with a tc in the final dc. Turn.
Row 5: Ch 1. *1 sc in tc of previous row. Ch 3 and skip ch-1 space of previous row. Repeat from *across ending with 1 sc in the final tc. Turn.
Row 6: Ch 1. *1 sc in ch-3 space of previous row, Ch 3. Repeat from * across ending with 1 sc in the final ch-3 space. Turn.
Repeat Row 6 decreasing in the number of ch-3 spaces in each row until there is 1 ch-3 at the bottom.
Row 7: Ch 1. 1 sc in the final ch-3 space. Turn.
Repeat Row 2-7 four more times (so there are 5 pineapples total).
At the end of the 5th pineapple, make a sc border going up and around the edge of the entire string of 5 pineapples. Then ch1 and turn and make a second row of sc border. Cut and bind off. MAKE TWO OF THESE!

Now grab your leggings. Use your sewing pins to attach the crochet pieces to the outside of the leg starting at the bottom and working up toward the outer hip. Take your needle and thread and hand sew the piece onto the leggings working only through the sc border you made at the end. Take your time on this - use small stitches so there are very little gaps that are not sewn on.

Once the crochet pieces are sewn on - make sure you can still get into the leggings. The crochet doesn't stretch like your leggings do (this is why you want leggings that are not too tight)!

Now turn the leggings inside out, grab your scissors, and cut out the legging fabric that is under your pineapple stitch so you can see through the crochet piece. Don't cut too closely to your sewing! You can always cut off more later, but you don't want to risk cutting that hand sewing that took you so long to complete!

And BOOM! You have some super cool leggings. Go do some yoga, take a dance class, or wear out on the town. This could also look really cool on a shirt with long sleeves - just use less pineapple repeats and get creative with it!

Happy stitching!
Hope you had a fantastic weekend! I sure did! (Check out my instagram for pics of the Maroon Bells up in Aspen - I really love my homestate!!!)

I keep talking about this fun DIY I want to share - but it involves black leggings - and with temps in the 90's here - I just haven't been able to force myself to put them on and take pictures of them. If it ever cools down - it will be coming - till then, if you have an extra pair of black leggings lying around (or any other color), get them ready for a cool crochet DIY!

So one of the coolest things about the grad program I'm in (Design and Merchandising and Colorado State University) is that we have our own museum - WHAT? Pretty cool, huh? The Avenir is our own little textile museum that exhibits darn cool historical and cultural textiles. Last year they had a ton of really cool Peruvian weaving and THIS YEAR historic lace!!!

HISTORIC LACE!!! That means there are some wicked cool historical crochet pieces in there right now. Fun fact learned at the lecture last week - selling Irish crochet lace helped keep families alive during the Irish potato famine. It literally saved lives. (I'm 1/4 Irish - and my family members lived through the potato famine - maybe they were crocheters - I'll have to check into it!) Anyway - I love stuff like that!

If you can make it to the museum here in Fort Collins - you should. If not, I've included some of my favorite crochet pictures down below. Enjoy. Happy stitching!

This will be a busy one.

I HAD intended to work on crochet stuff this long weekend (a fun DIY and a Sharp Crochet Hook promotion and some really cool historical crochet)... but then...

My bff won tickets to JazzAspenSnowmass... so there is pretty much no way I'm passing up my chance to escape the city, head to the mountains, and listen to this crew in the most beautiful place there is.

Try not to be too jealous. I'll try and get the legging DIY done before I leave tomorrow!

HAPPY WEEKEND!!!Sans Limites Crochethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10383578399201534823noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292581077269792338.post-77285612805978969582013-08-22T14:11:00.001-06:002013-08-22T14:12:32.045-06:00BIG big BIG SALE!OK guys! SO... Before school starts I've been rearranging all my stuff, cleaning out the closet, making space for dancing, space for sewing, and space for more crochet designs!!! YESSSS!

So with that... I have a ton of stuff in my crochet junk bin that I am just dying to get rid of! Think of it as a Sans Limites Crochet Sample Sale - slightly dated designs, slightly funky fitting designs, and ideas I had that just didn't turn out so well... now for sale for little more than the cost of the yarn it took to make them. I just want this stuff out of my house!!!

So...
Little things (necklaces and headbands) are $1 to $5!!!
Hats are for sale $5 to $10!!!
Cowls and neck warmers for sale $10 to $15!!!
And I'm listing some clothing pieces today (tanks, shorts, dresses) for I don't know how much yet, but I'm feeling generous.
(Add shipping costs to all orders!)

There is no way you will find handmade items for less than this ANYWHERE... I truly just want them gone! They'll probably be headed to Goodwill or a charity organization if they are not bought within a month...

Forgive the terrible pictures! Hope you all are ready to go back to school! WOO HOO!!!

Wow what a whirlwind the last month has been! Since finishing my textiles class, I put crochet borders on a ton of shorts, and dresses, and skirts... and even did a DIY with leggings that turned out pretty cute that I hope to share with you ASAP. I also completely cleaned out my closet, and painted the basement and rearranged all my furniture to create a dance/workout space and a workspace for crocheting and working with fabric for my graduate thesis project.

THEN... I took an epic roadtrip to see the new baby in the family and hit up 6 national parks and 2 Navajo parks along the way, but I did ALL the driving and my legs are still cramping a bit. My favorite travel pictures are included below...

Now I'm working on a couple new patterns I want to get out to you AND getting ready for school to start again. This year is going to be CRAZY. I'm taking a full load of graduate classes and trying to resist the urge to add one more (there is just too much cool stuff to learn). Also, super pumped to TA the Product Development class I took in the Spring and loved so much. I'm also planning out some dance classes I'll be teaching, and choreography I'm working on for the Nutcracker, and dancer competition season. ALSO... if you live in or around Northern Colorado, come take crochet class from me!!! I'm teaching at My Sister Knits starting in October... lots of fun projects I'm getting started on for that. AND working on my thesis when I have the time cause that should be pretty awesome... and by now I'm getting a little worried that I won't have enough time to work on Sans Limites Crochet patterns... so they may come slowly... but hopefully they'll be better quality.

How has YOUR summer been going? What are you guys working on? Are you excited for Fall?

So definitely been missing in action since my final ended a couple weeks ago... family was visiting AND I have spent a lot of time painting walls and moving furniture to prepare for all that is going on come fall (needed space for dance choreography and lots of table space for working on my grad thesis... yay basements).

And NOW I am leaving on a road trip to go visit my cousin and his new baby! No blog posts while I'm on the road, but see what I'm working on AND some national park photos by following me on Instagram!

Why is the summer flying by too fast???

New blog posts in a couple weeks!!!
Happy stitching!!!
I promised this a while back and have been super side tracked since then BUT it is finally here. I'm working out some options for making the Pineapple Robe in LARGER sizes!
***Please note that these sizes might not EXACTLY match up with apparel sizes you buy in the store... check all measurements I have listed in the sizing guide to be sure!

So for an XL/XXL size use a K hook.
Gauge with a K hook: 6 stitches and 6 rows = 2 inches
A: 28 inches
B: 58 inches (If repeated the full 5 times, if this is too long, lessen the number of repeats.)
C: 30 inches (If repeated the full 5 times, if this is too long, lessen the number of repeats.)
D: 13 inches
E: 17 inches

While making this sweater with such a large hook, the likelihood of the cotton stretching goes way up. Read about cotton and shrinking it in the dryer in THIS POST.
ANYONE near Denver, Colorado needs to make their way on over to the Denver Art Museum and check out the SPUN exhibit. (Going on now through Sept. 22.)

If you are even remotely interested in textiles and fibers, this is the place for you. I went a couple weeks ago and it was amazing. Some of my faves? ...the room with the batik and ikat (WOW) ...the silk scarf hand painted by Isadora Duncan's brother, Raymond (do you think it was one of her brother's scarves that made her meet her end in that car all those years ago???)... and of course the crochet coral reef.

CROCHET CORAL REEF, GUYS! It's a community project, so here is your chance to make something and have it displayed in an ART MUSEUM! Pretty cool.

Make something and send it to ...
Finally done with summer school and my sis has left town... back to stitching I go!

Here are a couple variations on the roll top backpack. You'll need to purchase the pattern for these tips to make sense (not a free DIY, here), but once you have the pattern, you will now have 3 ways you can make it (the original plus these 2 variations...) You can buy the pattern on Etsy or Ravelry.

OK.

Variation 1: The Mini Roll Top

Ok... in this case the general construction of the pattern is basically the same, but smaller. To do this, stop the construction on the bottom piece when you hit 105 stitches for a super mini, or 140 stitches for a medium mini. Then move up the backpack. The pattern is worked in a series of 5 stitches instead of 7 stitches. So for the first color change row (Row 3) you will do Color A in 4 stitches instead of 6. Row 4 is the same. Row 5 has 2 stitches in Color A instead of 4. Row 6 is the same. Now skip to Rows 9 and 10 which are the same. Then skip to Row 13 and do 2 instead of 4 stitches in Color C. Row 14 is the same. Row 15 has 4 stitches in Color C instead of 6. Rows 16, 17, and 18 are all the same. Keep that pattern going all the way up the backpack and save lots of time and yarn and make yourself a mini!

Variation 2: The Flag Roll Top

This one is very similar to the original. Use only 2 colors for the diamond pattern. Then grab yourself a piece of graph paper and draw out the flag (or really any pattern you want) to incorporate across the bottom part of the bag. Once the pattern ends, return to the diamond pattern described in the original pattern and repeat it until it reaches about 25 inches. Boom. You've made a cool bag.

Hope you all are doing fun and exciting things to celebrate. Me, I will be studying. With beer. (I have to remind myself it's a holiday somehow, right?) 3 more days of class and one final exam until MY summer vacation starts... so much stitching and pattern writing to do, and I can't freakin wait!!!

In the mean time... this is what I'm wearing today. I liked the crochet edging from the LBD DIY so much, I find myself adding it to just about anything! Here I added it to some men's underpants I bought at Target. Cheap and comfy, I'll be a happy beer drinking studier today!

Happy holiday, all! Happy stitching!

You will need:
-About a yard of fabric, OR BETTER YET - an old midlength skirt that has a really cool pattern on it and is loose fitting... I found mine at Goodwill... I feel like there are cooler fabric prints on pieces of clothing in thrift shops than anything you find in the craft store these days...
-2 skeins of Aunt Lydia's Crochet Thread size 3 OR a light (3) weight yarn... Patons Grace Cotton is great also.
-A small crochet hook like an E
-A needle and thread
-Pins

Begin with ch a multiple of 10 plus 2. The amount you chain should be long enough to fit approximately halfway around you just under your arms and above your bust. (I chained 92, but I have super teeny shoulders and bust - you might want longer for yours.)
Row 1: 1 sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. (Making 91 stitches for me total.)
Row 2: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc of previous row. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 2. *1dc in first st of previous row. Ch 1 and skip the next stitch. Repeat from * across ending with a dc in the final st. Turn.
Rows 4 - 8: Then I made the filet crochet pattern pictured below.

Make 5, 7, or 9 more rows just like Row 3, depending on the length you prefer your yolk. I made 7, and wish I had made 5 because the yolk goes low enough that my undergarments show under the crochet piece... which is a little more scandalous than I like.
Then Repeat the Filet Crochet pattern you made in rows 4-8.
Repeat Row 3 once more.
Now repeat Row 2 twice more.
Now you can create a neck opening.
This involves a little math. Take the original # you chained and subtract 51. (So for me... 91-51 = 40.) Divide that # by 2. (For me, 40/2 = 20)
Neck row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of the next 20 (or whatever number you ended with) stitches. Chain 51 and skip the next 51 stitches creating a large opening for your head. 1sc in each of the remaining 20 stitches (or however many you made at the beginning). Turn.

Now Repeat what you just did, up until the neck piece, back down the other way to make the back piece.
(2 sc rows, 1 dc/ch row, 5 rows of filet crochet pattern, 5/7/9 dc/ch rows, 5 rows of filet crochet pattern, 1 dc/ch row, 2 sc rows.)

Now make the triangle edging pattern pictured below going up and over each side of the piece you have just made so this pattern will go up and over the shoulders. For this pattern described in writing, check rows 9-12 of the LBD DIY.

I also added some little side panels to go under the arms. I made 2 rows of 10 single crochet and attached them across the bottom so the made armholes on each side.

THEN... I chopped the waist band off my old skirt. I pinned the old skirt/fabric onto the crochet piece. Since the skirt is very loose, I kept the fabric even by pinning it on one side under the arms, then stretching it out in half and pinning on the opposite side under the arms. Then pinned it with little pucker folds starting from each side and moving toward the center on both the front and back pieces. I sewed this on by hand so I wouldn't have to battle the puckers with my machine.

And that's it! Cut and weave in all loose ends of yarn and thread, and you have a super cute dress!Sans Limites Crochethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10383578399201534823noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292581077269792338.post-63001114663492065172013-06-22T10:07:00.000-06:002013-06-22T10:07:11.684-06:00TRENDING!!!Holy Cow! Yesterday's high was 89. If you are stitching anything right now you are probably reaching for your cotton, because that is the only crochet fiber we can even imagine wearing right now, am I right?

Summer school finance is over and now I'm taking an intro to textile science class. Besides my brief panicking moments when I can't get my microscope to focus or can't get my nose to recognize the celery burning smell of nylon... I'm having a great time... and learning a lot.

Why do we love cotton?

It's abrasion resistant, so if you are using a nice cotton yarn it shouldn't pill (although some of the "I love this Cotton" yarn I don't actually love so much because it really does pill a lot... boo). It takes to dyes really well if you're into that kind of thing. BUT MOST OF ALL, it is super comfortable in the summer time and has a weight to it that makes it drape so nicely in skirts and dresses.

Why do we not love cotton?

Well, because like your favorite pair of non-stretchy jeans it can sag and stretch with use. BUMMER. I made my mom the Pineapple Robe for Mother's Day in the larger size because I wanted it to be loose and comfy for her to wear around the house. My mom is a pretty petite woman and after wearing the robe for a week, it was dragging on the floor. She looked like the queen of the house with a train running along behind her... but I don't think that's the look she was going for...

So, simple solution? Wash that sucker. Cotton is actually stronger when wet! Pretty cool, huh? So you don't need to worry about your yarn breaking in the wash BUT since we are human, and I don't always trust the strength of my stitches, I hand wash anything I have made. Then I pop it in the dryer for a bit. AND BOOM... it's right back to the size it should be.

Why do I REALLY love Cotton/Acrylic blends?

A lot of times when I say to use cotton, I'm really using a cotton acrylic blend like Cotton Ease. This yarn has all the benefits of cotton (nice drape, breathable in summer weather) without any of the drawbacks (the acrylic makes it light so it doesn't STRETCH so much and is less likely to vary in size when washed). Now if we could just convince Lion Brand to make that stuff come in one pound discount balls, we could all save a ton of money because Cotton Ease ain't cheap.

What are the benefits of MERCERIZED cotton?

Mercerizing is a finishing process done to cotton. It's a really cool coating that gives it some extra super powers. It makes it a little shinier (more lustrous) which is sometimes nice. It also gives your yarn a brighter more vibrant color, and increases its strength and resistance to mildew. So if you are making the Sweetheart Swimsuit... it is worth it to have your cotton mercerized.

Why does all this matter?

When I first started stitching... I really didn't care what kind of yarn I used - I picked whatever was cheapest. BUT the whole goal of Sans Limites Crochet is to enable y'all to make things that you actually want to wear... that look fashionable, NOT crafty. Crafty is not always bad... but it's really fun to wear something and have somebody say, "Where did you get that?" and you can respond, "I MADE IT!" If you make a nice maxi dress out of a cheap, stiff, scratchy looking acrylic, it's not going to hang well, you won't feel awesome wearing it, and everyone will know you made it... yarn choice isn't everything, but it sure does help!!!

Hope you are stitching happy!Sans Limites Crochethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10383578399201534823noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292581077269792338.post-18631538951140915362013-06-18T08:20:00.000-06:002013-06-18T08:20:47.616-06:00Extra idea for The Pineapple RobeYou may have purchased the pattern to make the pineapple robe... it has been pretty popular which is pretty awesome - it's my favorite too!

So say you don't want to invest ALL that time and ALL that yarn... Make a shorter version!

Repeat the pattern for the body pieces 3 times total on the back piece, once to establish the collar for each of the front pieces, and then 2 repeats of the normal pattern after that, and two repeats of the pattern for the sleeves. Now you have a nice short summer sweater instead of a robe! YAY! Stitch happy!
Grab a plain looking mini dress (or make one yourself, if you're a sewer) and add this border to the bottom to make it look extra styling.

I'm going for the more delicate look so I'm using size 3 crochet thread and a D hook. You will also need a needle and thread.

Start by chaining a multiple of 10, plus 2 that will cover your chosen dress hem.
Row 1: 1sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc of previous row. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 2. *1 dc in first sc. Ch 1 and skip the next stitch of previous row. Repeat from * across. End with 1 dc in the final stitch. Turn.
Row 4-5: As Row 3.
Make the filet crochet pattern that appears in the below diagram. The pattern spans over 10 stitches.
Or, read the following instructions...
Row 6: Ch 2. *1 dc in each of the next 2 dc. (1dc in next dc, Ch 1 and skip next st of previous row) 4 times. Repeat from * across. End with a dc in the final stitch.
Row 7: Ch 2. *1dc in each of the next 2 dc. (1dc in next dc, Ch 1 and skip next st of previous row) 2 times. 1dc in each of the next 4 stitches. Repeat from * across. End with a dc in the final stitch.
Row 8: Ch 2. *1 dc in dc of previous row. Ch 1 and skip next st of previous row. 1 dc in each of the next 8 stitches. Repeat from * across. End with a dc in the final stitch.
Row 9: Ch 2. *1dc in each of the next 3 dc. Ch 3 and skip the next 3 stitches of previous row. 1 dc in each of the next 4 dc. Repeat from * across. End with a dc in the final stitch.
Row 10: Ch 2. *1dc in each of the next 3 stitches. Skip the next 3 dc of previous row. (3dc, ch1, 3dc) in ch-3 space of previous row. Skip the next 3 dc of previous row. Repeat from * across. 1dc in final stitch. Turn.
Row 11: Ch 1. 1sc in first st. *Ch 2 and skip 3dc of previous row. (1Dc, Ch1, 1Dc, Ch1, 1Dc, Ch1, 1Dc) in ch-1 space of previous row. Ch 2 and skip 3 dc of previous row. 1 sc in center dc of next set of 3dc of previous row. Repeat from * across. Turn.
Row 12: Ch 1. Make 1 sc in each stitch of previous row. In the center ch-1 space of the pointed part make (1 sc. 1sc, Ch3, and sl st into the top of the second sc you have just made. 1 sc).

Now cut, bind off, weave in loose ends. Sew this crochet piece you have just made to the bottom of your little black dress!
So, it's been a while since I have been in this spot, but I'm running low on little crochet project ideas to include as a FREE DIY on this blog. BUT I do have lots of ideas that are little alterations to a pattern you may have already purchased... So I'm going to include these ideas in the EXTRAS page up top.

So first... I love the clothing I am seeing made from Peruvian and Mexican style colored blankets. If I had a Mexican blanket on hand and was a better sewer I would make myself a jacket STAT. But since I don't, I've incorporated the idea into a crochet piece, and you can too!

I've incorporated these colorful Mexican blanket stripes into the Boho Jacket Pattern, but you can add it to any pattern you have that is made from plane old single crochet stitches. It's a great way to use up extra yarn you have sitting around... start playing with some stripes! Hint: have 2 rows as a minimum for each stripe, 1 row will look more like stitches than a stripe. If you like that look, go for it, but it won't look as much like these Mexican blanket jackets.

Check out the images below to see how I incorporated this idea into a jacket. And check the images below that for the jackets from Free People that inspired me for ideas on striping and colors. Play with it, and have fun!
