A Letter to YOU!

Dear Friends, Family, Customers, and People of seriously admirable style,

First, I hate getting junk emails from sites I've purchased from in the past, so I promise this will by my one and only "what's up with me" email. Second, my apologies for sending it en mass. If I could write each of you a specialized letter I would... and maybe in the future, I will!

I started to crochet when I was nine, and for all who know me, you will agree I'm a bit obsessed. I started Sans Limites Crochet in 2007 and it has grown slowly but surely through the years in between midterms, modern dance rehearsals, and journeys around the world. I recently applied for an internship with a company called Krochet Kids International... and I got it! This internship is absolutely one hundred per cent a dream come true, and I can barely contain my excitement!

Krochet Kids is a company that sells handmade crochet and knit hats and accessories. These items are made by women living in poverty - primarily in Northern Uganda and Peru. Working for Krochet Kids gives these women a guaranteed income and as part of the company they are given business classes so they can use that money in a way that will someday lift their family up out of the grips of poverty and help their own community. Buy a hat, change a life. On their website you can learn about the women that have made your hat and track the progress of them and their family. You can learn more about the Krochet Kids mission on their website, www.krochetkids.org.

In the summer of 2010 I was lucky enough to be able to spend a month in Uganda, and it changed my life. The people of Uganda have lived through a terrible civil war where entire towns have been attacked by the Lord's Resistance Army. Uganda is a country that has lived through child soldiers, rape, mutilation, murder, war, poverty, AIDS, a lack of healthcare, a lack of education, even a lack of food and water. During my time there I visited orphanages where hundreds of children are growing up without parents, in poor health, and overcoming unspeakable hardships. Every time I stress about the worries in my life, I think back to the people I met there and I am endlessly inspired. My time in Uganda was the most inspiring of my life, and I can't wait to contribute to a company working to make a difference there!

So... we reach the point of this email. This internship is unpaid. (Money is overrated anyway)... but a girl does need some mullah to make rent and buy groceries. Rather than ask for your cash this holiday season (because I know we are all short on that these days), I would like to ask for your business. Stitchers - I have tons of knit and crochet patterns available for your enjoyment for sale on Etsy and Ravelry - and of course all patterns come with my help and answers to any questions - I'm just one short email away. Non-stitchers - nothing would make me happier than making something special for someone you love this winter season. You can buy my finished products on Etsy and Big Cartel. Any purchases made on existing listings on Etsy will get 10% off when you use the coupon code INTERN at check out! Have something special in mind that I don't have in the shop? Shoot me an email and I'll try my best to make it happen! (Sorry, the coupon code does not apply to custom orders!)

Purchases can be made at

Ok... you've reached the end of this novel of an email! If you're still reading, thank you so much for your time, your support, and your consideration. Happiest of holidays to you! Hope you are all safe and warm with the people you love!

Love,

Sara

  3. KrochetKids is one of my favorite nonprofits. [hatsforhunger was another]
I remember reading about the internships they had available and so wanting to participate.
I have a family to care for now but who knows maybe one day...

Will spread the word for you and your journey. You are truly blessed and I am sure you will learn a great deal from your interaction with the women in Uganda.
