The Crochet Flower
This is a great flower you can make to attach to a simple knit hat (like the Knit Cap) or to a pin or clip to wear in your hair, or perfect a great outfit. Nothing tops an outfit like a big statement flower.
Supplies: 1/2 a skein of worsted weight yarn, G hook
Chain 4. Attach to the first ch with a sl st forming one small loop.
Foundation Row 1: 9 Sc into the center of the loop. Join with sl st.
Petal Row 1: (Ch 2. 3 Dc into next st. Ch 2 and sl st into next st) 5 times.
Foundation Row 2: (Sl st around base of center Dc of petal. Ch 3.) 5 times.
Petal Row 2: (Ch 2. 3 Dc into ch-space of previous row. Ch 2 and sl st into sl st of foundation row.) 5 times.
Foundation Row 3: (Ch 3. Sl st around the base of the center Dc of the petal. Ch 3. Sl st into sl st of previous row.) 5 times.
Petal Row 3: (Ch 2. 3 Dc into ch-space of foundation row. Ch 2. Sl st into sl st of previous row) 10 times.
Foundation Row 4: (Sl st around the base of the center Dc of the petal. Ch 3.) 10 times.
Petal Row 4: (Ch 2. 3 Dc into ch- space of foundation row. Ch 2. Sl st into sl st of previous row.) 10 times.

How do you "Sl st around base of center Dc of petal"? I'm fairly new to crochet (I'm a knitter mostly!), but I know how to slip stitch and double crochet and all that, I'm just unsure where to do said slip stitch. I tried putting it around the double crochet "stem" thingie in the petal, but I honestly can't figure out where to put the hook or which side the yarn should come from.
I'm sorry, I know I probably sound quite stupid and I'm sure it's quite easy, but I think it's such a beautiful big flower and I would love to figure it out, if you could help me.
