The Heart Sweater DIY

Has anyone else noticed these adorable sweaters from J Crew? They are super cute, but also super pricey. Lots of great fashion and craft bloggers have written up how to make one yourself and they are AWESOME so go read up on it with Sarah (great name) from Wearing it on my Sleaves or Cheryl from Stuff You'll Love (I really do love all her stuff)!

Now if you want to stitch one - here is where I, of Sans Limites Crochet, will help you out! Just in time for Valentine's Day! Hoorah!

You will need:

- A sweater. This is easy to find at a thrift store for cheap, Sarah found her's at Target, which is always my back up and if you want to get really stitch happy here, you can attach it to The Slammer Sweater (pattern for sale on Etsy and Ravelry for a mere $5.00 that will go toward helping me pay my living expenses while I work for a non- profit on what is now known as my AMAZING CALIFORNIA KROCHET KIDS ADVENTURE). Just leave the stripes out.
- Some worsted weight yarn for heart stitching.
- A crochet hook that goes well with your yarn - I'm using an I.
- Pins
- Needle and thread in a matching color.

To make the crochet heart follow these rows...

Ch 2.
Row 1: 1 Sc in second ch from hook. (1 Sc) Turn.
Row 2: Ch 1. 3 sc into the sc of previous row. (3 Sc) Turn.
Row 3: Ch 1. 1 Sc in each st across. (3 sc). Turn.
Row 4: Ch 1. 2 Sc into first st. 1 Sc into middle st. 2 sc into final st. (5 Sc). Turn.
Row 5: Ch 1. 1 Sc in each st across. (5 sc) Turn.
Row 6: Ch 1. 2 Sc into first st. 1 sc in each of the next 3 stitches. 2 Sc into final st. (7 sc) Turn.
Row 7: Ch 1. 1 Sc in each sc across. (7 sc) Turn.
Row 8: Ch 1. 2 Sc into first st. 1 Sc in each of the next 5 stitches. 2 Sc into final st. (9 sc). Turn.
Row 9: Ch 1. 1 Sc in each sc across. (9 sc) Turn.
Row 10: Ch 1. 2 Sc into first st. 1 Sc into each of the next 7 stitches. 2 Sc into final st. (11 sc) Turn.
Row 11: Ch 1. 1 Sc in each sc across. (11 sc) Turn.

Row 29: Ch 1. 1 Sc in each st across. (29 Sc) Turn.
Row 30: Ch 1. 2 sc in first st. 1 sc in each of the next 27 stitches. 2 sc into the final st. (31 sc) Turn.
Row 31: Ch 1. 1 Sc in each st across. (31 sc) Turn.
Row 32: Ch 1. 2 Sc in the first st. 1 Sc in each of the next 29 stitches. 2 sc into the final st. (33 sc) Turn.
Row 33: Ch 1. 1 Sc in each st across. (33 sc) Turn.
Row 34: Ch 1. 2 Sc in first st. 1 Sc in each of the next 31 stitches. 2 Sc into the final st. (35 sc) Turn.

Row 35: Ch 1. 1 Sc in each of the next 17 stitches. Leave the remaining stitches unworked. Turn.
Row 36: Ch 1. Sc2tog. 1 Sc in each of the next 15 stitches. Turn.
Row 37: Ch 1 1 Sc in each st across. (16 sc) Turn.
Row 38: Ch 1. Sc2tog. 1 sc in each of the next 14 stitches. Turn.
Row 39: Ch 1. 1 Sc in each st across. (15 sc) Turn.
Row 40: Ch 1. Sc2tog. 1 Sc in each of the next 11 stitches. Sc2tog. Turn.
Row 41: Ch 1. 1 Sc in each st across. (13 sc) Turn.
Row 42: Ch 1. Sc2tog. 1 Sc in each of the next 9 stitches. Sc2tog. Turn.
Row 43: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st across. (11 sc) Turn.
Row 44: Ch 1. Sc2tog. 1 Sc in each of the next 7 stitches. Sc2tog. Turn.
Row 45: Ch 1. 1 Sc in each st across. (9 sc) Turn.
Row 46: Ch 1. Sc2tog. 1 sc in each of the next 5 stitches. Sc2tog. Turn.
Cut and bind off and rejoin yarn at the other end of Row 34 where you left off and repeat Rows 35-46 on the other side.

Finish:
Complete this heart by making a sc border around the heart starting at its point. Join with a sl st once you reach the point again. Weave in all the ends and your crochet heart is complete!

Now pin that heart onto your sweater, and stitch it on with your needle and thread. Congrats! You have a super cute sweater just in time for Valentine's Day!
