The Mustache DIY

It's funny that mustaches are so trendy right now...  my Dad has had one... umm.... forever?  My parents have been married almost 35 years, and even my MOM doesn't know what he looks like without one.

He's pretty impossible to shop for... except he loves snowboarding... and he has a pretty awesome sense of humor.  So mustaches attached to something used for snowboarding?  That's the ticket.

I made a face warmer with this mustache attached... and now you can too!

You will need:

For the Face Warmer Part:
-Bulky yarn.
-Crochet hook or knitting needle that goes with that bulky yarn.
-That's about it...

For the Mustache Part:
-Worsted weight yarn (I'm using gray, to match my Dad's hair...)
-I crochet hook
-Tapestry needle for sewing it onto the face warmer part

Face Warmer Part:
You guys got this... knit or crochet a tube that will fit snuggly around the face.
(I'm knitting mine in a 1x1 rib so it stretches on size 13 16"circular needles, casting on 50 stitches and making it about 8 inches long...)

Mustache Part:
Chain 20.
Side 1:  Sl st in second ch from hook.  Sl st in the next ch as well.  1 sc in each of the next 2 ch stitches.  1 hdc in each of the next 2 ch stitches.  1 dc in each of the next 2 ch stitches.  1 tc in the next ch stitch.  Ch 2.  Sl st in the next ch st.  Ch 2.  1 tc in the next ch stitch.  1 dc in each of the next 2 ch stitches.  1 hdc in each of the next 2 ch stitches. 1 sc in each of the next 2 ch stitches.  1 sl st in each of the remaining 2 ch stitches.  Ch 1 and flip around.
Side 2:  Side 2 is the same as Side 1, but it is worked in the other side of the original set of ch 20.
Finish by making one final sl st at the end of Side 2 to join

Cut a long tail and bind off.  Weave in the original loose end, use the long tail you cut and the tapestry needle to sew the Mustache Part onto the Face Warmer Part, just below the top, under the nose, where the mustache would be.

And TA DA!  You are done!
